My name is Shelby Shaw and I am an in person and online private teacher. On occasion, I also work for those that would like to outsource aspects of homeschooling.

I private teach ages Kindergarten through Middle school, but can work with High School students that are a little behind. Non-tutoring High School classes can be found on the Classes page.  My focus is on struggling students.

I am passionate about learning and education.  I believe that children are unique and therefore also learn uniquely. Not everyone responds to lectures and worksheets. Some work better with a whiteboard. Others function best orally. Some children need to move their bodies for their brains to work at their best. Most importantly, I believe tests do not indicate a child’s intelligence but rather simply their ability to physically take a test. 


My goal is to create an environment that is relaxed, calm and individualized so that your child can achieve their best self. I use a multitude of tools and techniques to find the way that connects most with the student. If your child is a public school student, I will also work on strategies to help them adjust better to that that model of education. I love seeing the looks on their faces when the finally "get it." I want to take the frustration out of school for those that think out of the box.
